The Story
A Legacy Generations in the Making
John Ficklin is a retired public servant whose career spans more than four decades within the federal government, including senior-level service supporting national security efforts at the White House. His story begins generations before him — with a grandfather born into slavery.
A White House Legacy
His father, John Ficklin, built a distinguished career within the White House residence staff, eventually becoming one of its most trusted and respected leaders — serving presidents and first families through nearly forty-four years of American history.
Early Life
In retirement, John enjoys walks on the land that his grandfather purchased in 1901, and often finds that his soul looks back in wonder at his family’s legacy. While his ancestors had few material possessions, they were rich in spirit and strength, working hard to ensure survival during the Great Depression and while navigating the racial caste system of their time. Their perseverance, dignity, and unwavering commitment to family continue to inspire not only the Ficklin family but also countless others who hear their story.

Growing Up at the Center of History
Four Decades of Federal Service
John began his career in government at a young age and steadily rose through the ranks, ultimately serving in a senior role on the National Security Council staff at the White House. His work required discretion, leadership, and a deep understanding of government at its most sensitive levels.
